**** Course Descriptions ****

AMERICA'S BOATING COURSE (ABC) The Flotilla presents this course for all boating and watercraft enthusiasts, The course covers many facets of boating skills and elementary seamanship. (Class is 6 to 13 two-hour lessons depending on format)


BOATING SAFELY COURSE (BSC) The same as the ABC, except the course is condensed into 8 hours.  
 

SAILING FUNDAMENTALS This course is an introduction to sailing, safety and seamanship. There are seven lessons, plus additional navigational rules and safety regulations training.


BASIC COASTAL NAVIGATION and ADVANCED COASTAL NAVIGATION (BCN and ACN) The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary presents BCN and ACN to those people who wish to develop their skills in coastal navigation. Students must bring their own navigation tools. Each course is eight lessons, plus an exam. STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE BCN BEFORE TAKING THE ACN COURSE.


NAVIGATING WITH GPS was developed jointly by the U S Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons. Although a foundation in principles of navigation is recommended, a brief review of navigation is provided. The two-hour course provides a very basic introduction to the nature of the Global Positioning System as well as basic receiver functions with special attention to selecting a receiver and doing simple waypoint navigation. It is not intended to teach the operation of any particular GPS receiver.

PERSONAL WATERCRAFT (PWC) This course is a very basic one-hour introduction to safety issues involved when operating a PWC. (NOTE: The ABC or the BSC must be taken with this course to meet the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators requirements.)
